Robert R. Flewelling PsyD, LLP
Dr. Rob Flewelling earned his Doctor of Clinical Psychology degree (Psy.D) and Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan School of Psychology. Since 2009, Rob has worked in a variety of environments, including community mental health centers, correctional facilities, and university counseling centers. He began working in private practice at Horizon Counseling in the spring of 2015.
Rob weaves together an integrative approach to therapy – drawing from cognitive-behavioral theory, client-centered, psycho-dynamic, and narrative therapies – coupled with multiculturally-informed perspectives that recognize and integrate a client’s unique cultural factors and background into treatment. Through this process, he strives to provide a psycho-therapeutic environment that is uniquely collaborative, warm, and empowering for the client. Rob seeks to have his psychotherapy reflect the individuality of the client, help them identify the core issues associated with their difficulties, develop a means of overcoming them, and work towards a deeper sense of insight and self-understanding.
His clinical interests include depression, anxiety, job-related stress, difficulties in adolescence and emerging adulthood, identity development, couples therapy, relational conflict, exploring meaning and purpose in life, and the resolution of past trauma. Outside of the office, Rob has too many interests and hobbies for his own good. Still, his favorite things are long-distance running, cycling, playing hockey, alpine skiing, hiking in the woods, French press coffee, cooking and eating Italian food, sourdough bread, reading a good book, and exploring record stores for new music and vintage first-pressing vinyl.
